The World Press Photo Exhibition

Beauty lies in the eye of the beholder! Selection of over 100,000 captures produced by over 5000 photographers from all over the world to make it to the annual World Press Photo Exhibition.

To win the overall prize, the World Press Photo should focus an issue, situation or an event which reflects significance to journalism. Further, the image should highlight the exceptional perception and creativity.

This year the prize went to the award winning Spanish photojournalist Samuel Aranda. His photograph captured and captioned the love and anguish of a mother reunited with her injured 18 year old son in Yemen, during the Arab Spring. He is an award winning photojournalist, for the past 10 years, capturing under the theme of conflicts and social issues in Spain, Pakistan, Gaza, Lebanon, Iraq, Morocco and Western Sahara.

There are nine themed categories and 57 photographers were awarded for their perception, capture and creativity. Some of the major impacting photography captures came from the Japanese earthquake and tsunami and the Arab Spring.

All the 159 award winning photographs have been arranged together into a travelling exhibit visiting 45 countries including New Zealand. Book your tickets to New Zealand with Travel Centre UK.
