Covid quarantine to be dropped for vaccinated Brits abroad

Britons who have been fully vaccinated abroad will soon be able to travel to the UK easily as the government makes preparations to recognise jabs administered abroad and ease covid quarantine.

The restrictions currently in place is applicable to only those who have been fully vaccinated by the NHS. This means they can reap the benefits of avoiding quarantine if they visit from any amber list country.

These rules have severely affected hundreds of thousands of British citizens who are dual nationals or have been living/working abroad; a change in this system wound undoubtedly be an advantage for many.

Those who have had both jabs in other countries but are registered with a GP in the UK will be able to register these with the NHS. However, the doses must have been made by Moderna, Oxford/AstraZeneca, Pfizer/BioNTech or Janssen.

According to Nadhim Zahawi, the vaccines minister, addressed the move in response to an MP during a Commons debate last week.

He said: “By the end of this month, UK nationals who have been vaccinated overseas will be able to talk to their GP, go through what vaccine they have had, and have it registered with the NHS that they have been vaccinated.”

The vaccines minister also said GPs would scrutinise whether the vaccines had been approved for use in the UK, with a more long-term goal of coordinating an agreed vaccine standard with the World Health Organization & medicine’s regulators in the US & EU.

He hinted that double-vaccinated travellers coming from abroad would be able to have their doses recognised- and not only limited to citizens who registered with a British GP. Saying: “We want to offer the same reciprocity as the 33 countries that recognise our [NHS] app, and that will also happen very soon.”

Ministers are expected to announce changes to Covid quarantine for Brits abroad, before 31 July, during a review of the rules regarding international travel.
